Adventive distribution: None.

Weed status: Frequently in rice fields, but not considered weedy.

Habit: Small, creeping stem plant.

Brief description: Annual or perennial. Stems prostrate, creeping, with adventitious roots at nodes forming dense mat. Leaves decussate, sessile; leaf blade oblong to elliptic, small (2-5 mm long); margin entire. Flowers solitary, sessile in leaf axils; sepals 5, margins ciliate, petals 5, margins ciliate; adaxial lobe longer than rest; white to pale purple. Dispersal by seeds and stem fragments.

Natural habitat: Swamps and littoral zone with periodic inundation.

Additional comments: A single species in the genus. Not widely found in the aquarium hobby. Closely related to Glossostigma.
