It doesn't appear as if there's any way for lucid to interact with nexus files (phylogenetic character matrices). I would sure love to be able to import these more or less directly (even through a tab-delimited table step, if necessary). Alternately, if one could export such a table easily, I wouldn't mind generating the matrices there in the first place. But it seems that one has to generate the matrices within Lucid, and once there they're stuck there. Can anyone tell me if matrix import or export is possible, or if there are plans to do it? The Help Desk has so far remained silent in response to this question.

Thanks,

Mike Caterino (mcaterino@sbnature2.org)

Hi Mike,

Sorry for the slow reply. It's been a hectic week. One of our programmers have been looking to support the import the Nexus XML format into Lucid. Though I can't give you a time on its availablity. In the meantime though you may want to explore the CSV format Lucid supports for importing and exporting matrices. Also the Lucid Builder supports a number of other formats including importing and exporting Character (Feature) and states lists as well as Taxa (Entities) via a simple text file format. I am not a Nexus user, so I am not fully aware of all the file formats it can generate, but if it supports the Taxonomic Databases Working Group SDD (Structure of Descriptive Data) standard then Lucid also supports this format.

Cheers,

Matt.
