1. In a case where a certain state is known for a few entities but is unknown, not applicable or just not scored for many others, is it essential that the state be scored as unknown for all other entities? Leaving the state blank is the same as giving it an absent score so what effect will this have on the ultimate outcome?

2. If the answer to the above is to score everything else as unknown, is the most efficient way to accomplish this to do it in the spreadsheet scoring view?

Thanks,

Jim Thurman

You are correct in that leaving a score blank is treated the same as an absent score, and will result in entities that are not scored being discarded when the state is selected. Using uncertain (?) scores and "Retain Uncertains" enabled will result in entities scored as uncertain being retained when the state is selected. Please refer to the following help page for more information.

lucidcentral.org/Portals/1/help/lucid3/v3_4help/Builder/uncertain.htm

Spreadsheet scoring would be the most efficient way to set multiple uncertain scores for a range of entities. To do this, score the first entity of the range as uncertain (?), and while holding down shift score the last entity of the range. This will set an uncertain score for each entity in the range.

Thanks Damian.

Using your method for inserting multiple uncertains, is there any way to select a range in spreadsheet scoring and have the program only insert the uncertains in boxes where no other score currently exists, skipping the boxes already scored rather than also rescoring them as uncertain?

I suspect the answer to this may be no, and if so, this might be a valuable option to include in a future release.

Jim, conditional scoring of this type is not possible in Lucid 3.4. I've added it to the list of requested features for the next release.
